I hear a lot of remarks about the heroics of civilians who ran towards the #bostonbombing right after the blast, and how that is a testament to the character of Boston's citizens. While it is no doubt brave of them, should we really be promoting that kind of behavior? The truth is that, had the attack not been over, it could have caused a lot more damage and deaths. It also could have added more confusion to an already confusing situation. First responders are highly specialized and trained for these situations...regular civilians don't necessarily know the best course of action.
